Zvekir is a metal circle attached to the entrance door, made in the form of a ring or collar. Zvekir was used to change the bell. Masters modeled them from wrought iron, but also from bronze and even – gold.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, it can still be seen in the old parts of the cities, at the doors of traditional Bosnian houses.
The iron ring symbolizes power, placed with the intention of impressing the guest before even entering the host’s house.
The one who wants the household to hear him hits that ring. It is customary to hit the halku three times, until someone comes out in front of the guest and welcomes him.
